The South African border management authority has initiated operations to smoothly facilitate the departure of international delegates attending the G20 Leaders' Summit in Johannesburg. Coordination mechanisms are in place to prevent delays or complications, with staff deployed at key exit points to ensure uninterrupted processing. Several foreign leaders, including the UK Prime Minister, heads of state from Spain and Ireland, and delegates from Qatar and the UAE, have already departed without incidents. More exits are anticipated throughout the day, into the night, and extending into the week, as some participants plan to stay longer. Operations utilize three main ports: O.R. Tambo International Airport, Lanseria International Airport, and Waterkloof Air Force Base, where many private aircraft are stationed. Exit procedures are described as less complex than arrivals, omitting port health checks for infectious diseases and agricultural biosecurity inspections of luggage, focusing solely on immigration processing via the movement control system. Officials emphasize that the process mirrors the incident-free entry phase, with ministerial goodbyes arranged, and teams remain fully engaged to handle all remaining departures efficiently.
