G20 Leaders' Summit | Presidency to be handed over to US by DIRCO

South Africa's International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola has outlined the formal protocol for handing over the G20 leaders' declaration to the United States, emphasizing adherence to diplomatic norms. He stated that the document cannot be delivered to a deputy ambassador, as this would breach protocol; instead, South Africa's ambassador will personally deliver it to the US counterpart at the US offices in Pretoria. Lamola underscored the importance of following G20 procedures, expecting the US to reciprocate the respect shown by all member states. The handover, which includes several G20-related items, is scheduled as a ceremonial event starting from Monday, with arrangements to be made for a suitable date. He assured that South Africa is fully prepared and that this process will not strain bilateral relations, as it occurs at the appropriate diplomatic level.
